We started this journey by accident. Or rather, we started walking down the path of creating this album, without realizing where we were headed. I, Kirsten, have been writing songs for as long as I can remember, though for most of my life I never shared them. I never considered it. I wrote songs as a sort of therapy, and even if I’d wanted to share, I was too anxious to sing in front of anyone. But then, I met an incredible cellist who became one of my best friends. Adam learned of my songs, and one evening, convinced me to share one with him. He was excited about what I’d created, and recorded a rough snippet on his phone. And so it began: the first step on the path of a long and magical road, through the woods and out to the sea, accompanied by spirits.

The songs are written by me, and Adam performs some sort of dark alchemy, to bring new life and fullness to each one. In addition to cello, he plays many instruments, and paints the songs with an amazing variety of tones and textures. These songs are written from a place within; an exploration of an inner world. I write about what I see, and tell stories from the perspectives of the characters I meet there. I never set out to create something specific, but rather, I let things unfold as they wish, and I do my best to catch the pieces as they fall.
